A pregnant woman was threatened with a gun in an attempted hijacking outside Belfast’s Mater Hospital on Friday night.

Police say a man walked up to the woman who was with her mother-in-law as they got into their car on the Crumlin Road and threatened them with a gun.

He forced the women out of the car.

Police officers, who were nearby made their way to the scene and the man abandoned the car and ran away.

Both women were left badly shaken.

Meanwhile, four people were left “badly shaken” after their car was hijacked in north Belfast.

The four - two men and two women in aged in their 20s and 30s - were in a Grey Toyota Prius in Cliftondene Park on Friday night.

They were forced from the vehicle by two men who got into the car and drove away. It was found burnt out in Alliance Drive a short time later.

Police have appealed for information about the hijacking. No-one was injured in the incident.
