IRISH rugby international Stephen Ferris has spoken of his disgust after a friend’s dog was subjected to an horrific attack.
Three-year-old collie Codie appears to have been set alight and last night was fighting for her life.
The attack has caused shockwaves through the tight-knit Maghaberry community where Stephen grew up and still lives.
Codie’s owner Martin Agnew lives on a farm in the Co Antrim town.
He said his children saw two teenagers petting horses in one of their fields before walking around towards a quarry on Sunday morning.
The children then came running to tell their father that there was someone on their land.
“Around an hour and a half later, the dog came running back burnt,” he said.
“It was just awful, one of her eyes was bloodshot, her nose had been burnt off and she is missing most of her fur, the vet has kept her in and we are hoping she’ll be ok.”
The Animal Connexions page on Facebook saw over 200 messages voicing support for little Codie and disgust at the attack.
