AN attempt has been made to remove a third Northern Ireland road sign after two were stolen within days of being erected on the Fermanagh border.
Two of the ‘Welcome to Northern Ireland’ signs have been taken down in the Newtownbutler and Rosslea areas while an unsuccessful bid was made to remove a third in the Belcoo area.
Roads minister Danny Kennedy has said there has been an over-reaction to the new signage scheme, which he added, would continue in other border areas including south Armagh in the coming weeks.
He said it was “sad” that two signs had already been removed and accepted that more could go missing as they are rolled out across the Province.
