THE News Letter looks back on the glittering career of Northern Ireland cyclist, Wendy Houvenaghel who has sensationally spoken out against her omission from the gold winning Team GB.

The Upperlands woman should have been celebrating Northern Ireland’s first gold medal at the London 2012 Games.

Instead, the 37-year-old was denied the chance to ride on the Team GB women’s pursuit team and left the velodrome 30 minutes before her three team mates, Joanna Rowsell, Laura Trott and Dani Kin took the gold medal after being told she would not be taking part.

Houvenaghel explained that Team GB Performance Director, Shane Sutton, approached her 30 minutes before Saturday’s final to say she would not be competing.
