A SECOND man has died following a two-vehicle crash in Fermanagh on Sunday afternoon.
News of his death came just hours after police released the name of the first victim — 22-year-old Ryan Maguire from the Riversdale Road area of Drumquin near Omagh in Co Tyrone.
The fatal collision occurred at the Ardess Crossroads on the Manoo Road near Kesh around 1.30pm.
Six people, including two small children, were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.
One man remains in hospital in a critical condition, while a woman is described as being in a serious condition.
Kesh councillor Bert Johnston, whose wife is related to the second man to die, said his thoughts were with the families of the victims.
The DUP representative said: “This was an awful tragedy and I’d like to extend my sympathy to all of the families involved,” he said.
The Manoo Road was closed for a time while police investigated.
Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Tom Elliott said: “I believe that this accident may have occurred close to where another fatal accident happened just over two years ago.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the people who died in this accident but also with those who are injured and involved.”
Local UUP councillor Raymond Farrell said that he had seen emergency services rushing past the St Angelo area around the time of the crash.
“It is a terrible tragedy and my sympathy is with those involved. There have been a number of accidents on that road in recent years. It has been known for accidents and some of a fatal nature,” he said.
The accident happened on the same weekend that a 41-year-old man died following a crash in Hillsborough.
Robert Hanna had been driving a white Subaru Imprezza which was in collision with another car on the Edentrillick Hill Road at about 5.30pm on Saturday.
Three other people were treated for injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed either collision to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
The funeral of Ryan Maguire is due to take place at St Patrick’s Church, Langfield, Drumquin, on Thursday at 12 noon.
