A FOOTBALL signed by the late George Best is due to go under the hammer next week in aid of charity.
The ball was used when the Manchester United legend appeared for Portadown-based Annagh United in a friendly match 30 years ago.
The piece of memorabilia from 1982 will be auctioned, along with a number of other football keepsakes, at the annual Portadown FC awards dinner on Friday, May 25.
Money raised from the sale of the autographed ball will go towards the Moving Mountains Trust.
The Ulster-based charity is to send a group of 25 young people from the Co Armagh area to Kenya next summer to assist in the building of a new school.
Other auction items include a league winner’s medal from Portadown’s first ever title win in the 1989/90 season, donated by an anonymous former player.
A number of jerseys provided by other representatives of the Irish League club will also be open to bids.
For members of the public not attending next week’s dinner, offers can be placed before next Friday on any of the items by emailing the supporters’ liaison officer, Gareth Verner, on slo@portadownfc.co.uk
All auction items are also available to view via the club’s official Twitter page @portadownfc.
