Northern Ireland’s top international golfing star, Rory McIlroy, jetted into Belfast today to support the Ulster rugby team in a league game with Leinster.
The world ranked number one player arrived with his girlfriend tennis player girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki after meeting the Queen earlier in the day at Newbury Racecourse.
“We were in England and I knew this game was on tonight, so Caroline asked me how long was the flight was from London to Belfast ,” Rory told the BBC at half time.
“When I told her it was about an hour she sort of raised an eyebrow and we thought we might as well go for it. We are here for the night to watch the match and catch up with a few people and then we fly back early tomorrow. Caroline has a tournament next week so she has practice at 10.30 in the morning so it will be a bit of a rush.”
