A POLICE commander has called for community talks ahead of a Orange parade on the north Coast.
The Twelfth demonstration which is held in Carnlough every six years, is expected to attract up to 400 Orangemen along with 11 bands.
Chief Inspector John Magill said police will work with representatives to ensure the march passes peacefully.
“The PSNI encourages communities to come together to put in place local sustainable agreements around parading issues,” he told the Irish News on Wednesday.
Sinn Fein MLA Oliver McMullan told the newspaper that the parade would create community tension and called on the Orange Order to engage in talks.
He also claimed the parade would damage tourism along the coastal area.
However, a spokesman for the Orange Order said the Braid Twelfth would bring more visitors to the area.
“The parade will also act as an indicator as to whether republicans pay more than lip service to the idea of a shared future and cultural expression of the minority Protestant population in Carnlough,” the Orange spokesman added.
