LOYALISTS have vowed to continue with Union flag protests in spite of falling numbers.

On Saturday around 600 people turned out at City Hall for week 10 of the regular Saturday protests against the reduction in days the Union flag is flown at City Hall.

In previous weeks thousands attended the protests.

On Saturday Ulster People’s Forum spokesman Willie Frazer claimed that protestors “would die for the Union flag”.

He said: “We all want a peace process. But we all want a peace process that will rebuild this country and not destroy it.

“If they think that by taking a flag down this country is finished then they are very much mistaken.”

Mr Frazer was dropped and then reinstated as UPF spokesman within hours last Thursday.

Earlier Jim Dowson, former official for the right-wing British National Party vowed that protests will go on until the Union flag “is flying in its rightful place”.

The Scotsman said: “We will never surrender. We will never retreat. We will never back down until the Union Flag is flying once again in its rightful place. We are in for the long haul with this one.”
