AN Ulsterman has been reported to have won £10.2 million in the Euromillions lottery on New Year’s Day.

The lucky winner, according to local press, is former republican internee Joe Clarke.

The 60-year-old, who was awarded £12,500 for being subjected to extreme interrogation during internment in 1971, bought his winning ticket in west Belfast.

Mr Clarke received a suspended three-year jail sentence for assaulting Eamonn Magee in the Blacks Road area of west Belfast in 2004.

A Camelot spokesman would only confirm that there was a winning ticket from the New Year Euromillions draw.

A spokesman said: “Camelot can confirm that it has received a claim from the EuroMillions draw on Tuesday, January 1 that has been validated and the jackpot prize been paid out. In the draw one very lucky ticket-holder in the UK won a share of the jackpot, banking £10,243,449.

“The ticket-holder has opted to remain anonymous.”
