After a year that began with police officers being urged to step up their personal security, and ended with a foiled bomb attack on a policeman’s car, can 2013 see the dissident republican campaign ended once and for all?
It is accepted that the dissidents are a minority and have little to no support and many say they are waging ‘war’ in no-one’s name but their own and cannot last.
But, in light of police officer, soldier and prison officer murders, others say the lack of support does not matter to them and they seem determined to continue with their aims of death and destruction.
