A 35-year-old man has died after a shooting.

The man was dropped at St James’ Hospital in Dublin with gunshot wounds on Friday evening.

A Garda spokesman said he was pronounced dead in the hospital a short time later.

It is understood the murder is being treated as a gang-related killing.

Gardai said officers were investigating a shooting in the city centre.

The man was brought to St James’ at about 7pm.

The car used to drop him at the hospital was later found on Cork Street, less than a mile from the hospital.

A Garda spokesman said the area where the vehicle was discovered has been preserved for technical examination. “The exact location where the shooting took place is not known at this time,” the spokesman said.

No arrests have been made.

Gardai appealed for anyone with information about the murder to contact Kilmainham Garda station.
