An Irish army bomb disposal team has carried out a controlled explosion on a device in Dublin.
Members of the Irish Defence Forces were deployed to Turvey Avenue, Inchicore - a south west suburb of Dublin - following a request by Garda shortly after 3pm.
The area was cordoned off and local residents were evacuated to a safe location.
An army spokesman said the device was located in a green area near private residences.
“The viable device was made safe in situ by means of a controlled explosion,” he added.
“The remains of the device have been removed to a secure military location for further examination and will then be handed over to the gardai to assist with their investigations.”
The scene was declared safe just after 4pm.
No information has yet emerged as to who might be responsible for the device.
