FISHING equipment belonging to a youth charity was stolen from a container near a lake in Dromore earlier this week.
Around 60 poles were among the equipment taken during the burglary between Monday and Wednesday morning at the lake on the Lurgan Road. Police said: “The charity is dependent on donations and this equipment will not be easily replaced.”
Sports Minister, Carál Ní Chuilín said young people from a Portadown suicide prevention group had been due to use the equipment this weekend, but said her department had found alternative fishing rods.
“I was horrified when I heard about the situation,” she said.
“Angling First is a charitable organisation that works to introduce the sport of angling to young people. It is their aim to improve the mental health and wellbeing of those they work with.
“It is groups such as these that help to inspire young people and vulnerable adults giving them positive experiences and develop an interest in angling.”
