THE head of BBC Northern Ireland is thought to have had a role in the Newsnight programme that wrongly accused a Tory politician of being involved in a child abuse scandal.
Ballymena-born Peter Johnston is on the BBC’s management board but it is not known exactly what his involvement in the programme was.
The 46-year-old joined the BBC in 1994 and is now director over the Northern Ireland region, a role he has held for the past six years.
The BBC said Mr Johnston was not available for interview on Monday afternoon.
