One of the Tall Ships that wowed crowds in Belfast has sunk off America’s east coast as Superstorm Sandy begins to batter the region.
The HMS Bounty was one of the stars of the Titanic Maritime Festival when it was anchored at Queen’s Quay and Abercorn Basin in Belfast alongside other famous vessels in 2011, and also during the Tall Ships Festival in 2009.
However it fell victim to the unique ‘frankenstorm’ which is causing chaos as it sweeps across the States on Tuesday morning.
Superstorm Sandy slammed into the north eastern coast late on Monday night with winds of up to 85mph and hit New York City with a 13ft wall of seawater, flooding roads and subway tunnels.
There have been reports at least 13 people have died.
